Any deviation from this Die Building Requirements & Specifications will require a written request from vendor to the Su-dan Corporation Project Engineer.

I. Purpose 目的
A. The purpose of this metal stamping die standard is to provide detailed instructions for use in the design, construction, and testing of all metal stamping dies supplied to the Su-dan Corporation
1. Su-dan requires die(s) to produce finished parts that conform to:
a. The part drawing. 产品图面
b. Including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
c. Requirements for first parts approval process.
2. This standard and the specifications referenced herein are issued to:
a. Define the general classifications of metal stamping dies for Su-dan. 定Su-dan五金模具分类

(1) Standardization of design, which will decrease review time and expense.

II. Scope
A. All metal stamping dies supplied to Su-dan will comply with the requirements specified herein and as stated in the die design and construction data sheets.

A. All dies will be constructed for inter-changeability of perishable die blocks, punches, retainers, die buttons, and pilots.

In any application where Su-dan is stamping a high strength or high carbon material the use of CPM-4, CPM10V, and CRU-Wear material with a surface coating should be discussed.
IV. Metal Stamping Dies - General Requirements: 五金模具--一般要求
A. Die design and construction data sheet: 模具设计与组立数据表
1. The Su-dan Engineer shall complete and submit data sheet with each die proposal request (Including shut height, feed levels,parallels, etc.).
2. Data sheet will be updated at final die design review, including the Project Engineer and the vendor's recommendations, which will become part of the general die specifications.
B. Die design approval: 模具设计审核
1. A strip layout is required on all parts before formal design is started. The strip layout is to reflect the stock width, the progression, and the tonnage required to produce the stamping. Strip layouts should be developed so that scrap pieces are not left in the die.
2. To conserve material, the edge of the part may be the edge of the coil material wherever the part design will permit. Using edge of coil material as part entity will require written approval from the Tool Engineer.
3. The strip should be developed to maintain maximum strip strength for the greatest possible distance through the die.
4. A die should be designed to minimize any strip distortion which would tend to change the distance between pilot holes (alter the progression).
5. All die designs will include part number, stamped on the part if indicated on the part print and a Su-Dan ID. stamp if required.

6. All die designs that involve both single and/or double progressive dies that produce the following:
a. A right and left hand part, if symetrically opposite, will be equipped with either "R" and "L
identification on each part.

b. If parts are not symmetrically opposite a 1/8" letter "T" identification should be used on one of the parts.

d. Julian date stamps (interchangable) will be required on all safety parts.
7. All die capable of producing multiple level designs from that die, must be equipped with a provision for interchangable part identification to distinguish all variations capable of being produced from that die. Consult with Project Manager for specific identification.
8. All die drawing numbers plus special die drawings will be supplied at preliminary review.
9. Provision for loading and unloading of raw materials for all dies, as well as part ejection and scrap removal will be covered during the die design.
10. Designs will avoid excessive use of lubrication to produce stampings。
11. If stock does not start against a pitch notch (positive stop) a start mark for first hit will be necessary.
12. Full scale preliminary drawings must be reviewed on site between Project Manager and Vendor. Drawings must be approved by Project Manager prior to the start of construction.
13. The die supplier will furnish in writing the developed blank size along with the preliminary tool drawing(s).
14. All die designs are to be originated and dimensioned using inch standards.
15. Dies are to be designed so they can be maintained in the press using inserts in forms and cut off sections. All forming inserts must be adjustable to accommodate stock thickness variance.
16. Wear points of the die sections must be inserted for economical maintenance, replacement cost, and adjustability for stock variance.
17. Die should contain a minimum of one idle station to accommodate future design considerations. i.e. restrike, cam pierce, etc.
18. The position of the ball seat and key flats must be noted on stock list when not in standard position on oblong and rectangular punches and buttons.
19. Die designs should include the provisions for sensors. A minimum of two sensors-See Section K1.
20.In addition the die design drawing will show: 此外,模具设计图面应显示:

20. Die progress reports are to be submitted twice a month to the Su-dan Project Manager.
21. Paper is to be 34" x 22" with the standard Su-dan title block.

22. If roll sized drawings are supplied they will be folded to 34" x 22" size with the title block located in the lower right hand corner.

23. Completed die designs are to be reviewed and approved before die construction begins.
C. Die design ownership: 模具设计所有权
1. The die design supplied to Su-dan under a design and build purchase agreement will become the property of Su-dan. Therefore, no restrictions will be placed on the die design drawings and diskettes by the vendor.
D. Die noise: 模具噪音
1. During the die design and build, consideration will be given to the following:
a. Grind shear. 修模刀口

F. Die design responsibility: 模具设计责任
1. The die design, construction, function, and ability of the die to produce acceptable repetitive production parts will be the sole responsibility of the die supplier.
2. Any errors found in the dies during tryout and final acceptance test will be corrected by the die supplier at no additional cost to Su-dan.
G.Die performance: 模具性能
1. All dies to be designed and constructed considering optimal production rates as designated by the Porject Manager. The Goal is to explore innovative techniques to increase the press Speed at which these dies will operate. This in turn translates Into higher production capacities, in a shorter period of time.
2. All new dies will produce Su-dan production parts to meet first parts approval and part run rate before final acceptance.
V. Die Design Criteria 模具设计标准
A. Preferred components: 首选的零件
1. All metal stamping die(s) supplied to Su-dan will be constructed using the preferred components already identified.
B. Production part materials - Die design relationship : 产品的材料 (与模具设计有关)
1. The production material thickness will be used when calculating the die design dimensions-check with Project Manager for exact tolerances.
2. To optimize material usage, flat blank nominal material thickness will be used along with the minimum inside form radii to calculate material used.
C. Calculating operation tonnage of die: 计算模具工作吨位
1. The calculated operating tonnage of the die will include stripping pressure.
2. The stripping pressure for the press tonnage will be calculated with the die closed.
D. General die life and construction: 模具寿命与组装
1. All dies will be provided with a minimum of 4 steel "set blocks," or stop blocks positioned over the parallels. 所有的模具应包含至少四个位于垫脚上的限位块或者限位柱
a. Size of set blocks to be determined by: 限位块的尺寸由以下条件决定
(1) Die area 250 square inches or less, use 2 inch diameter round or comparable area-rectangular set blocks.

b. Set blocks will have a .050" deep by .250" wide slot for soft lead coining at shut height. Set block to be stamped, or die shoe to be stamped ".050" near set block.

3. Die sections will have staggered hole patterns for one-way assembly.
3. Die section(s) will be a minimum of 1.5" thick. 模具刀口入子至少有1.5英寸厚。
a. There must be a .375-.500" cutting land with all wire burned sections or holes for all parts. These sections must be undercut at 1?° taper to provide the desired cutting land.
b. Dies should be designed for use of wire E.D.M. on die sections, trim and notch punches where applicable. Traditional die making practice must be used so each section can be worked during the repair process. All large wire burned sections should be segmented when possible.
4. Cutting sections will be ground or finished by E.D.M. to remove decarb. All die sections will have a ground seating surface.
5. All pierce die holes will be buttoned unless otherwise specified.
6. Screw holes will be counterbored in the die section . Screw heads will be a minimum of 3/8" plus die cutting land below the die section surface, and screw threads must enter no less than 1.5 times diameter.
7. Where possible, screws will be hex socket head cap screws. Other types of screws, such as set screws, will be hex socket.
8. Refer to company press information to determine the proper shut height, die size, and parallel size needed. 根据公司冲床情况决定适当的闭模高,模具尺寸以及需要的垫脚尺寸。

b. Parallel mounting screws will be 2 different sizes from one end to the other.

e. Die handling holes of ?" or 1" are required on both sides of the top and bottom shoes.

g. Proper clearance for Hi-Lo forks between the bottom parallels to provide safe balance when lifting. Slots must be a minimum of 6" and maximum of 28" apart, and equal distance from the center of the die.

h. A keyway slot must be on parallels for centering die on bolster. 1.020" wide and 1" deep.

8. Large weldments in die structure will be machined on the mating surfaces, screwed together, welded, and normalized before final machining.
9. Welding on trim steels to make corrections or modifications is acceptable only to complete tryout and first piece approval. Welded trim steel sections must be remade and retried before die is shipped. Welded form steels must be approved by Project Manager.
10. All overhung items, gages, hoses, valves, electrical wires or boxes will be protected with heavy duty guarding, from lift truck mast.
11. Dies with thrust characteristics must be properly heeled and keyed.
a. Heel blocks to have a minimum of 1/8" heeling before work is started.
b. Heel blocks should have screws located on the side of the block toward the thrust.
12. Use D2 steel or better on all cutting and forming sections with heavy usage. Provide kicker pins in punch sections and spring plungers in the stripper when necessary for positive strip removal. Each section is to be doweled separately.
14. Eject parts toward front side of the die and press. 推出的产品应该面对模具及冲床的前侧。
a. Parts and scrap cannot be mixed. 产品及废料不能混合。
b. On dies where multiple parts are made, parts must be kept seperate.
c. In two-out dies the back part must be marked with a 1/8" T stamp as required by part print or Project Managers' direction.
15. Flattening and restrike sections are to be provided, as dictated by part configuration and part print specification. Flattening, forming, and coining steels will go through the stripper in lieu of using the stripper to perform above listed die functions.
16. All dies containing a restrike station should have a parallel under restrike station. Pararllel should have a minimum width to cover entire restrike area.
17. All dies containing coining stations shall have a minimum .750" hardened plate under each station for support.
18. In dies using shave applications, it is best to use a two-out die configuration. This is used to balance cutting forces shave punches must be heeled. Shave area to be outboard of strip stock. Use double pilots to locate parts. Use pilots that are located in lower die half. Use two shave stations as follows:
a. All shave applications must be reviewed for die clearance accuracy.
19. Carrier design must be developed in one of three ways to avoid match cuts and the burrs that are associated with them (no burrs are exceptable in these area's).
a. Cutting carrier or cutting of part leaving a male tab on the parts.
b. Cutting carrier or cutting of part leaving a recess on the parts.
c. Match cut on an angle to a radius.
20. A die must have sufficient pilots to control the strip adequately in order to produce consistent parts.
a. Pilots are to be .004" diameter smaller than pierce punches.
21. The following tolerance standards should be adhered to when detailing a progressive die:
a. 4 place decimal +/- (小数点后四位) . . . . . . . . . . .0005"

b. Linear dimensions in the direction of progression must not be stacked.
22. Extrusion punches must be coated to prevent galling.
23. A minimum of two safety switches must be installed on all progressive dies to probe for proper strip advancement and part out detection.
24. Provide under and over feed protection at the end of the die (strip buckling, misfeed, part ejection, etc.).在模具后端在上下均使用送料保护装置(扣料,误送检测,产品顶出等)
25. All dies should have a quick disconnect junction box for easy hook up to the die protection control.
26. A progression bar (not to exceed prog. x 1" x 1") is to be made of tool steel, stamped with the die progression and hardened to R.C. 52/54. It will be mounted by two 5/16 socket head screws on the front right side of the die.

E. Die safety: 模具安全
1. The design and construction of all dies will not require the operator(s) or other personnel to place their hands or other parts of their body in a pinch point hazard.
a. The use of hand tools must be approved in writing by the Project Manager.
b. Guards will be provided as needed.
c. The use of press mounted electronic guards will affect the guarding requirements and be approved by the Project Manager.
2. All dies will be drilled to accommodate eye bolts for lifting and turning the dies. Four tapped handling holes will be provided along the top and bottom edges of the die set. These holes will be a minimum of ?"-10 x 1.75" thread depth.

3. The weight of the die upper half will be stamped on the front face of the punch shoe and the weight of the lower half will be stamped on the front face of the lower shoe in accordance with OSHA requirements. Also, the total die weight is to be stamped on the front face of the lower shoe.
4. Break all non-functional sharp corners. 去除所有没有功能的尖角。
F. Scrap removal: 落料
1. Parts must fall free from die, scrap must shed properly, no air blow-off or assist. If a cylinder ejector must be used, incorporate a proximity safety switch and use non-ferrous materials where it enters the die, or it must be of positive return design.
2. Dies will be constructed with provisions for positive stripping and ejections of the finished part and all generated scrap. 模具应该构造成能够从正面剥落及顶出成品及废料。
a. Air blow-offs have to be specifically approved by the project engineer in writing. The air blast must be cycled with the press stroke. A flow nozzle must be used to reduce noise and volume of air released.
3. Where required, scrap will automatically be removed from the die. The die supplier will provide chutes to prevent the possible build-up of parts and/or scrap under the die. Scrap length should not exceed the pitch of die. In situations where the size of scrap or the overall length of scrap prevents the easy removal from the die,the scrap will be cut into smaller pieces that will aid in their removal.
4.Tooling Engineer will specify additional requirements, such as containers or conveyors, supplied with the die.
G. Die sets:
1. See section VI for "Stamping and marking" of die set.
2. Die sets will include: 模座应包括:
a. Guide pins/bushings that are the precision ball bearing type (Lempco, Danly, etc.).

b. Guide pins will be staggered, to prevent the incorrect assembly of the die set.

e. 4 post die sets are to be used unless otherwise specified.

4. Heel block wear plates should be tool steel on the bottom shoe and permanent graphite impregnated solid bronze material on the top shoe. IEM is Su-dan's preferred supplier.
5. Minimum shoe thickness will be 2" on light duty dies, 3" on medium duty applications (up to 40"), and 4" on heavy duty applications (up to 108").
H. Die mounting requirements: 模具安装要求:
1. Provisions for die mounting will be specified at the preliminary design review.
2. Top and bottom shoes or parallels will be provided with 2" clamping height surface and 1" slots for bolts.

3. Progressive dies will include a provision for aligning the centerline of the die with centerline of the press, this required keyway slot size is 1.020" wide and 1" deep.

4. Multiple secondary operation dies to be mounted on a common plate to run in one press whenever possible. (To be determined at pre-engineering launch meeting).
I. Maintenance requirements: 维修要求:
1. Die sections will be mounted with screws through the die section into the shoe in a manner that will permit section removal while the die is in the press.
a.All die sections will be provided with "Jack Screw Holes" a method for removal from the dowels. If jack screws cannot be used than angled slots need to be installed for pry bar access.
2. Whenever feasible cutting steels which carry a form radius will be designed to be sharpened without redressing the form radius. Inserts should be used whenever possible.
3. For maximum support use nest blade punches. 最大可能使用镶嵌刃口的冲子。
a. Entire assembly will be designed to be shimmed at sharpening.
b. Tap into blade for mounting.
J. Die lubrication: 模具润滑。
1. Easily accessible provisions will be made for lubricating all bushings.
2. Wear plates on cam slide mechanisms should be manufactured out of permanent graphite impregnated bronze material. IEM is Su-dan's preferred supplier of bronze plates. Other Supplier's will be considered upon Project Manager's approval.
3. Any deviations from Item #2 due to possible cost restraints must be approved from Project Manager. Otherwise cam dies will be used and must be provided with an easily accessible means of lubricating slides, cam surfaces, guides, normally with grease fittings, and grease grooves.
4. Insert draw rings will have Zerk Fitting to inject grease to each insert.
K. Die protection: 模具保护装置
1. The die design should include the provisions for sensors, which will include at a minimum, one sensor for detection of progression and one for part out detection. In the case of a double progressive die, two part out sensors will be used.
2. All dies used in conjunction with automatic transfer devices will be equipped with a limit switch or some other electrical signaling device to assure the positive transfer of the part after each stroke of the press.
3. All transfer dies must be protected by limit switches to stop the press in the case of faulty operation.
L. Shear clearances: 冲裁间隙
1. Shear clearances should be designed to minimize burrs with consideration to die life. 8% of metal thick per side or 6% with raw material under .030" thick.
M. Stock guiding and control: 条料导正及控制
1. Direction of feed shall be from right to left hand unless otherwise specified.
2. Dies will be provided with locators for positive blank location.
3. Stock guides will be: 调料导正应为:
a. Hardened and ground 0-1 tool steel RC 54/56. 热处理到RC 54/56并研磨0-1模具钢。
b. One or two piece construction. 一到两种的结构。
c. Fixed fastened and doweled to the stock shelf and die section.
d. Mounting arrangement must allow for stock removal. In some instances the use of crowders may be specified.
4. Beginning guide rails should be hardened and doweled on one side and the other side should be adjustable.
5. All progressive dies except those that utilize outboard lifters should use french notches on at least one side of stock (operator side of die) unless otherwise specified by the Project Manager.

6. The pilot full diameter will extend through the stripper and be long enough to locate the stock before the stripper contacts the material (one material thickness).
7. Pilot lower holes are to be buttoned and I.D. of pilot hole should be .005" larger than pilot O.D.
Pilot clearance holes must go completely through the detail and die shoe. Pilots should be of sufficient size and strenght to allow this clearance.
a. Buttons are encouraged when piloting in hardened tool steel, based on design constraints.
8. All pilots must be a minimum 5/16" diameter.
9. Only tooling holes may be used to pilot. Repiercing to a larger size when piloting is complete, is allowed.
10. Progressive dies will have sled type stock lifters after trim operation. Stock lifters should have a rounded top with a diameter sufficient to cover trim out area or sled lifter to be used.
11. Progressive dies will have a coil start line marked on die(s) or on the guide rails.
13. A pierced pilot hole shall be the first station of a progressive die to ensure proper pitch from die setup.
N. Die materials: Reference section III. B. 模具材料:参考章节III. B.
1. Identify all details with: 用以下确定所有的零部件:

a. Form steels, punches, draw rings and pressure rings should be D-2 or better tool steel hardened to RC58-60 and surface coated if the part requires it.
b. All wear surfaces should be inserted with type D-2 tool steel or better hardened to RC58-60.
c. Draw beads punches and die sections will be made from D-2 tool or better steel.
d. In any application where we are stamping a high strength or high carbon material the use of CPM-4, CPM 10V, CPM 15V, and CRU-Wear materials and a coating should be discussed.

1. When required by the die design, the Vendor will furnish and mount ground parallels running from front to back, mounted with the capability for fork truck die handling.
a. Dies over 10,000 pounds use eight inch clearance between parallells.
2. Parallels are required when blanks or scrap are discharged through the die shoe.
3. Parallels with mounting keys will be doweled with a minimum .5" diameter dowel.
P. Dowels: 合销
1. Dowels must be press fit in die shoes and strippers, and push fit in die sections.
2. Dowels must be a press fit in all locating nests and stops.
3. All dowels must have accessible knockout holes without dismantling.
4. Use blind dowels only when impossible to drill through, if blind dowels are required, use removal pull type dowels.
5. Dowels must not be used to withstand side thrust force (keys are to withstand this force and will be specified when quoting).
Q. Punches, buttons, and retainers: 冲头,嵌套及固定器

c. Hardened backing plates are required on all punch retainers and where stamps are used.
d. Whenever possible all pilot holes require a press fit bushing.
3. Standard removable ball lock punches and buttons will be used, with heavy duty style ball lock.
4. Press fit buttons with other than centered round holes will use dowel locator for position or flat key. Dowel locators are preferred due to space requirements.
5.Retainers used to retain a group or cluster of punches is to be constructed as a single large retainer. The use of single punch retainers should only be utilized when a single punch is required, not when a number of punches reside close together.
6. Punches and stamp retainers will be backed by hardened and ground tool steel plates ?" minimum thickness.
7.All Retainers used to locate trim punches and sections, punches and buttons must be hardened and ground.
8.Like punches will not have standard ball lock locations and shank diameters.
9.Blank and trim entry will occur before piercing punches by one-half stock thickness.
10.On compound dies, piercing amd blanking punches must be on the same plane to prevent material slippage.
11.All punches and trim steels must have slug ejectors.
12.Die buttons must be mounted in hardened tool steel, A2, 4140, or 6150 RC 50/52。

14. All wire burned sections are to be mounted in hardened tool steel with hardened backing plate.

16. Punches and buttons are to be standard items whenever possible:
a.Standard pierce punches are to be M-2 (H.S.S.) hardened to RC58-60 and ground with a slug ejector whenever possible.
b. Wire E.D.M. "stick" punches having their shape burned through the retainer, are recommended.
c. For all but the most basic shapes. Use heavy duty ball-lock punches with a ?" minimum shank diameter whenever possible.
17. All non-standard punches and punch sections are to be fabricated from M-2 and heat treated to RC58-60.
18. When punches of a non standard nature are required in the die, inverted ball lock punches are not acceptable. Punches will be EDM cut with a L-shape and fitted into a special retainer (See Q-5) for secure placement and ease of removal of punch in die, with normal standard stripper window access.
19. Shedder pins should be in all punches including blanking, cutting, trimming, and piercing punches.
20. Depth of the counter bore for a cap screw in cutting sections is to be equal to height of the head plus die life of sections. If the die sections permit, provide 1" depth to assure that no screw head will interfere with the part after sharpening the section.
R. Springs: 弹簧
1.The use of wire springs should be discouraged, but if they must be used then the lifter must be designed with a cap for easy spring removal.
2.Compression of springs must not exceed manufacturers recommendation for high speed and long life.
3.Spring cans are required, as practical and should not disengage from the spring pocket.
4.Drop in nitrogen cylinders are preferred over springs.
5.Springs are not to extend through the die shoe. When this situation becomes necessary, springs which have to extend through the top of the shoe are to covered by a ?" plate, mounted to the die shoe to maintain spring pressure.
S. Strippers: 脱料板。
1. Strippers are to be heavily constructed when design dictates.设计时脱料板应很好的构造。 a. Strippers should be constructed in two or three pieces to aid in handling.
b. Stripper will be established in thickness by size of die.
c. The minimum thickness for a stripper is 1.250".

7. Stripper pads will make uniform contact in advance of the working die sections.
8. Do not use the stripper for forming operations (unless guided and specified by the tool engineer).
9. Areas of the stripper used to mount or support spring pressure are to be a minimum thickness of ?".
10. The stripper will be a minimum of ?" thick over the stock guides.
11. The stripper will be made of pre-hardened 4140 (Maxel), or 6150 hardened to RC 26-34 or 0-1 hardened to RC 50-55.

17. Two jack screws must be provided in windows and die section for ease of removal. All sections that do not have jack screw holes must have pry slots.

19. The stripper must have a minimum of .250" clearance from bottoming on the heel blocks when the die is at shut height.
20. Install a shedder pin in the stripper at the cut off to prevent the part from sticking to the stripper, plus include shedder pins in areas of extended pilots.
21. Draw applications must have a binder or pad designed into it so the metal flow can be controlled using a secondary power source such as springs, gas cylinders, or air cushion.
22. All stripper retainers must be removable from the working surface of the die.
23. Hardened backing plates are required under all pads that bottom out.
24. No work should be done with the stripper unless it is unavoidable. All strippers with form inserts, pads, and lance/pierce details must be guided by pins and bushings and must bottom out on balancing blocks. All inserts are to be hardened.
T. Nitrogen system: 氮气弹簧系统
1. Manifolds will be mounted with the screws going through the manifold into the punch or die shoes.
2. Pressure guages must be provided on the system. 在系统上应提供压力检测表。
